In the space of less than a month UK fiscal policy has swung from wildly over expansionary to almost certainly too tight. One would hope that the government would have been able to find a sweet spot somewhere between £45bn of debt financed tax cuts and the new talk of difficult decisions, spending cuts and tax rises but apparently one would hope in vain.
